Preparing for Disaster

Disasters manifest themselves in different forms at different times and in different places. For some, it could be a wildfire advancing on their home; it might be a landslide, an earthquake, a hurricane, flood, heat dome, or even a power outage. In the 21st century, we’ve come to expect that many disasters occur or are worsened by climate change.

To prepare for whatever may come, the Earth Care Team is devoting this program year (2024-2025) to Disaster Preparedness. At the beginning of each month, we’ll share guidelines toward a 12-months-to-get-ready plan. Month by month, let’s get ready for whatever comes.

Month One, Disaster Preparation Starts at Home

Month Two, Making a Communication Plan

Month Three, Three Different Emergency Kits

Month Four, Getting Out of Your Home

Month Five, Water, Water, Everywhere!

Month Six, Managing Illness or Injury During Disaster
